Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry at Sri Lalithambigai Medical College and Hospital, Maduravoyal, Chennai, is striving to be the state of the art facility for mental health services, situated at the heart of the city. Since its inception, the Department has been active in providing mental health services ranging from mental health awareness programs, training, inpatient and outpatient consultation services. The Department is equipped to provide comprehensive neuropsychiatric and psychological assessments and management for all age groups, including children, adolescents, adults, perinatal, and the elderly, with benevolence and excellence in quality of care.

Outpatient Services:-

The Department runs specialty and regular OPD Clinics from Monday to Saturday. The OPD services include detailed neuropsychiatric assessment followed by Pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. The latter includes individual psychotherapy (like JPMR, CBT, MB-CBT, Supportive Psychotherapy, IPSRT, etc.).

Inpatient Services:-

The Psychiatry Inpatient setting houses dedicated wards for males and females separately, with each ward equipped with ten beds. The wards are manned by nurses and staff from allied sciences trained in managing psychiatric patients under the supervision of the Psychiatrists. Inpatient services include pre-admission counseling, activity scheduling, ECT services, group therapy for patients and caregivers, deaddiction, and rehabilitation; following a mandatory detailed neuropsychiatric evaluation.
